Located on the trade routes connecting Europe and Asia, Aleppo is an ancient city of production and trade. In this respect, Aleppo has been of economic importance from an international point of view. After Aleppo fell under Ottoman rule in the 16th century, the construction of buildings such as caravanserais and bazaar complexes in the city accelerated, and the commercial attraction of the city increased. The city became the meeting point of many European and Asian traders. Foreign traders settled in various parts of Aleppo and conducted trade affairs in their own neighborhoods. In this context, the presence of Indians in Aleppo is remarkable. The Indians settled in the Hindiyân (Indian) Quarter of Aleppo and ran their business from this region. Considering the name “Hindiyân”, it is seen that Indians who came to Aleppo also influenced place names in the region. In addition to the Hindiyân example, “Kefer Hind Village, Hindiye Town, Hindî (Indian) people and Hindiyân Lodges” have also taken their places in and around Aleppo. In this context, the aim of this study is to make a research on the presence of the Indians in the region, based on the effects of the Indians on the names of places in and around Aleppo.
