Abstract

This study aims to analyze the recommendations in the literature on crisis communication and crisis management through a sample crisis situation. Within the scope of our work, the process of managing the crisis of the mining enterprise after the mining disaster, which took place in the city of soma in Manisa on May 13, 2014, was analyzed on the basis of crisis communication and management models in the literature. In trying to manage the crisis in the study, especially the press conference held three days after the crisis was analyzed and tried to determine the right and wrong . Case study (case study) method was used in our study. The 1 hour 48-minute press conference, which was extensively analyzed in the study, was deciphered and the statements of the institutional authorities were analyzed . As a result of this, it was analyzed whether it is parallel to what should be done in the crisis. In the findings of our study, it was observed that institutional spokespersons were forced to answer the questions of the press, and occasionally came to the point of discussion with press members. Some rhetoric has shown that members of the press have been reprimanded. During the meeting, it was seen that the institution's spokespersons refused to explain each other. While Soma Maden AS managed the crisis, they made important mistakes in some of the principles recommended in the context of crisis communication and management, and in general we believe that it has failed to manage the crisis
