Abstract

Various text types are used in Turkish textbooks in Turkey. These texts need to be examined and evaluated from various perspectives. There are various methods of doing this. One of these methods is the Propp method, which emerged in the study of fairy tales. The fact that the propp method has not been used before in the analysis of the texts in the Turkish textbook led the researcher to this method. The aim of this research is to examine primary school Turkish textbooks by using the Propp method. In the research, document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study material of the research consists of 11 fairy tale texts in the primary school 1st -4 th grade Turkish textbooks grasped in public schools in Turkey in 2020-2021. Expert opinion was taken while choosing these tales. The tales were first read and summarized by the researchers, and then the symbols corresponding to the Propp functions were shown on the text by one of the researchers. The same tales were also evaluated by an expert evaluator other than the researchers, and the functions found were compared. The results reached by the researcher and the expert were evaluated with the Miles-Huberman formula. In the event that there is a difference of opinion between the researcher and the expert even on one item, the tale was read to a second expert and his final opinion was consulted and that opinion was taken as the basis. The formulas of the tales were derived with the symbols of the functions found. In the research, it was found that the tales that can be reached at present are suitable for the Propp method; It has been determined that the tales in the textbooks meet the Propp functions and it is possible to extract the presentations of the tales. The educators of this model were trained by the unabridged, full version of the tales.
