Abstract

Textbook; a guide for both teachers and learners is an important element of the education and training process, a source of information and an indispensable material for education to be general and permanent. Despite all the advances and developments in education, the most basic material in providing to the student with the objectives of the curriculum is the textbook. This situation has remained unchanged since the first day of its existence as an educational institution. The accessibility of the textbooks, the ability to present the desired achievement in a planned and gradual manner, the help function of the teacher in the process of processing the lesson and the textbook has always kept its importance in education and training. Textbook is the best education material which the education and training policies, devolopments and approaches are being reflected on. One of the elements that best reflects these approaches is the textbook. The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of Turkish teachers who use the book for two textbooks, one of which belongs to the Ministry of National Education and one of a private publishing house, in the 6th year of 2018-2019 academic year. The research is a descriptive study. In order to get the opinions of teachers, “General Evaluation Scale of Primary School Turkish and Mathematics Textbooks Rating Scale” developed by Çetin Semerci was used. In order to eliminate the possibility of prejudice and approaches of teachers, each participant was asked to evaluate only the textbook that he / she used in the course. In the study, theteachers who used the 6th Grade TurkishTextbook, which was published by the Ministry of National Education, generally found the book in line with the criteria and were pleased to use this textbook; it was determined that the teachers who used the text book of the private publishing house found the book in sufficient in many respects.
