AN ART HISTORY INVESTIGATION ABOUT ORNAMENTED PISTOLS AND RIFLES LOCATED AT THE MUSEUM OF THE TIRE CITY AND ÖYKAM

Abstract

We can say the following about the pistols and rifles from the decorated firearms we have dealt with in the Ottoman and Republic period in ÖYKAM and in the City Museum of Tire in the cities of Ödemiş and Tire in the districts bound to İzmir: There are 1 pistol and 5 rifles at the Tire City Museum; 6 pistols and 4 rifles in the ÖYKAM. Ottoman, European and American made pistols, pistols and rifles of various lengths, which were used during the centuries, are in the relevant exhibition sections in the museums. Pistols and rifles are not as dense and elaborate in compositions and decorations as their counterparts in many of Turkey's museums. The ornaments on firearms belong to the non-ruling people from the possibility, and they are rather simple examples that reflect the provincial style. Some of the products that fall under the scope of firearms exhibited in the museums are in the museum for the purpose of purchasing and some of them are displayed for donation. Pistols are working with mechanical and trigger system. We studied were processed as mother-of-pearl on wood. Generally, vegetable mainly curled branches, various gray flowers, geometric shapes containing diamond slices are beveled beads. Most of the pistols are intensely ornamented. In the metal parts of the rifles the wood parts are dense and the vegetable and geometric weighted beads are seen. Wood, steel, iron and brass are emerging as the main building materials of the pistols and rifles. Techniques such as engraving, casting, casting, inlaying, scraping and engraving are striking as construction and ornamentation techniques.
