THE MEASUREMENT OF FINANCIAL LITERACY AND THE EFFECT OF FINANCIAL EDUCATION ON FINANCIAL LITERACY LEVEL: SIRNAK UNIVERSITY SAMPLE

The financial literacy helps individuals to display correct attitudes and behaviors and to make rational decisions in their economic lives through financial information which individuals have. Within this context, this study investigates both financial literacy level of students of Sirnak University, and whether the financial education has an effect on financial literacy level. In this study, the face-to-face survey method was practiced, and the survey was applied to total of 146 students, including 49 from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, 25 from the Faculty of Engineering, 24 from the Faculty of Theology, and 48 from the Vocational Higher School. In this study, It is found that the financial literacy level of Sirnak University's students is generally low. The financial education has no effect on the basic level of financial literacy, however it has positive effect on the advanced financial literacy. Meanwhile, there is no a statistical significant relationship between financial literacy level and age and gender factors.
