Abstract

The development levels of the provinces can be measured in many ways. However, it is difficult to express development with a single criterion due to the differences in the economic, demographic and social structures of the provinces. Therefore, economic, demographic, socio-cultural, technological and similar criteria should be taken into account in determining the development levels of the provinces. The aim of this study is to compare cities in Turkey according to their development levels using some socio-economic indicators received 2018 with statistical analyses methods such as clustering, discriminant and principal components analysis. As a result of this analyses Turkey's cities are divided into four different groups according to their level of development. The group, which includes Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara cities, has been determined as the group with the highest level of development compared to the others. The city with the highest development level was determined as Istanbul according to the development index values obtained by the principal components analysis and all criteria which are used in this research to determine the development levels of cities are found statistically significant.
