THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POLITICAL BHAVIOUR AND DEMOGRAPHIC FEATURES: THE CASE OF ADIYAMAN PROVINCE

What the factors affecting someone’s political behaviour, how and to what extend they affect are subjected to the academic studies. Factors such as media, environment, education, occupation, political system, religion and family are affecting political behaviour of constituents but their demographic features are also influential on their reactions to these factors. Thus, a young person’s reactions to a certain political event or idea might be different from an old person’s reactions. In his research, the relations between five demographic features of electorates in Adiyaman (age, gender, education level, occupation, and income level) and five political activities (political party membership, reading leaflets of political parties, attending meetings, participating election campaigns, and voting for different political parties in the last four elections) will be analysed. The data gathered from face to face questionnaire is classified in accordance to these five demographic features of the Adiyaman electorates and Chi-square test has been run with the five political activities. By doing so, it is aimed to find out if there is a statistical relation between demographic features and political activities. Those that have statistical relations are analysed and those not are taken out of analysis.
