NUMBER AND MODIFIERS IN ARABIC LANGUAGE GRAMMAR: THE HOLY QURAN AS A MODEL

Abstract

The topic of number and modifiers is one of the topics that is indispensable to know the Arabic language. We are not exaggerating in this expression if we say that it is one of the most complex and interrelated subjects. The number and its noun modifier is subjected to case of masculine, feminine, singular and plural. Some numbers correspond with modifiers in gender and accent marks, while others don’t have a different way. The noun modifier of the number has other characteristics, for in some cases it is singular and in other it is plural. In addition, the change of the nominative case, subjective case, straight case and upright case grammatically speaking depending on the number itself. In this essay, I have explained in details in the first chapters the subject of the number and the case of its noun modifier based on the specialized books in Arabic language grammar. All numbers mentioned in the Holy Quran have been extracted. It is worth to mention that not all numbers have been mentioned in the Holy Quran. Only 30 numbers have been mentioned in different occasions and for different reasons
