Abstract

Cinema it is one of the tools important mass media that has left its mark on modern life with its structure that mirrors social changes and influences and shapes the audience. The change of women too in over time can be watched clearly on the cinema, which is a visual tool. The cinema, was entered the Turkey in 1897 with the Cinematograph of the Lumiere Brothers. The documentary The Fall of the Russian Monument in Ayastefanos, suffers by Reserve Officer Fuat Uzkınay on November 14, 1914, was considered the first film produced by the Turks. The cinema sector operated by the Central Army Cinema Office, in 1917 was made several films the semi-military institution Müdafaa-i Milliye Cemiyeti and Disabled Veterans Association. The cinema, which was under the influence of theater for a long time, was started to form its own style in the 1950s. In this study, has been discussed the image and problems of women reflected in the films in Turkish cinema from 1920 to 1990. While the disruptions in society are depicted in the films, remained in which position did the life style, family relations, image, character and roles of the woman? What problems have been encountered in the face of the role that traditions assign to women in social life? The questions were tried to be concretized with films given from Turkish cinema. Thus, was selected a film in the including different problems for each decade.
